One of the major hits in this year's Raya songs is Mimifly's Serumpun (which also has a dance portion with stylized Malaysian Sign Language) and one of the more enjoyable things I've seen are the various dance vids being performed to it (the title means "of the same root/source/group" and in her MV it was explicit with how she had other people showing up Nusantara/SEAsian native attire) from various Malaysians *AND* SEAns especially if you're in the aforementioned Nusantara grouping so I've seen videos from as far north as Cambodia. Anyway, this must be the fault of my algorithm because while I'm getting gorgeous Malaysian Indian dancers in full traditional attire why is the only properly choreographed non-nyonya non-baju Melayu videos from Malaysian Chinese is this Zumba video clearly from somewhere in my neighbourhood if the basketball court in the local park doesn't give it away... I guess at this point that's a cultural dress....

hey! I've just moved here today and i thought I'd start by introducing myself. I'm an ecologist, specialized in avian and herpetofaunal ecology. i am also very interested in the data science aspect of the discipline, and i am working on getting more familiar with the ins and outs of R programming, and hopefully moving to more conventional programming, so i can feed into my other interests.

i am also muchly into open source software, specifically Emacs and Void Linux, and in my free time, work on contributing to Void Linux packages and my Emacs config. i tend to talk about all of these things a lot.

I'm big on cats. well, basically everything about them. expect a LOT of photos.

i also play the guitar a little and I'm predominantly into loud and dark music. I do talk about the music i listen to as well, both here and on my blog articles.

i also occasionally like to indulge in woodworking, and i hope to get more active with it

i have been blogging since 2016, on and off, and recently revived my blog after a hiatus of nearly 2 years.

you can read more about me at https://peregrinator.site/

Time for me to shamelessly do a re #introduction for the newer people joining masto!

Hello! I am a published SFF author, poet, musician/music student and sometime-composer with major impostor syndrome. I am also a biblioholic, a literary Gothic academic (PhD in Literature). My interests outside of these spheres include cooking, language learning, binge-watching my favourite (mostly SFF/Gothic) shows. On Mastodon I mostly engage with the #3GoodThings community when I am not posting #music recommendations (mostly #womencomposers #experimentalmusic #contemporarymusic #classicalmusic with some #indie)

An LP a day - for no other reason than I love my records - No.53

Arrested Development. 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of...

One of the early Afro-centric political rap albums of the 1990s & what a great album it is; killer beats, consciousness-raising raps & a style that remains influential.

Standout tracks:
Give a Man a Fish - the classic educative message wrapped up in a brilliant rhythm;
Everyday People - AD reach back to Sly Stone for inspirations & continuity
