In a Sunday Calvin and Hobbes comic strip from 1992, Calvin is writing a story. An alien spaceship has come from a far distant world with the job of sucking up all the water from Earth's oceans, along with all the clouds and all the air, and taking everything back to their own planet. When pleaded with to stop because everyone here is dying, the aliens reply, "Sorry, we prefer your extinction to the loss of our job." Calvin says to Hobbes, "That's my science fiction story. Think it's too far-fetched?" And Hobbes answers, "Not enough, really."
