Friends of St Fittick’s Park argued that, before the work starts, an end user of the site needs to be named - as set out clearly in the planning permission of the site. But the council rejected this. Instead, they swallowed the line that the “Energy Transition Zone” will serve restoration and enhancement of the burn and wetlands and bring “community benefits”, even though the most biodiverse part of the burn running through St Fittick’s Park would be destroyed. No one knows who will use the new facilities for what, except that the fossil fuel lobby and oil billionaire Ian Woods want the park to be destroyed.
