Praying for their captor: April 14, 1945, five Japanese American monks pray for the deceased President FDR at the Minidoka concentration camp in Hunt, Idaho. They were imprisoned, along with 120,000 other legal residents and citizens, for more than 3 years due to FDR's Executive Order 9066.

The 5 are Gibun Kimura (Nishi), Yohaku Arakawa (Nichiren), Eiyu Terao (Nishi), Hojun Sugimoto (Nishi), and Gikan Nishinaga (Nishi)

If asylum seekers and refugees are costing us money then they should be allowed to work and support themselves, but also their applications need to be processed and approved. Work isn’t just a means to support oneself but also tied to dignity and a sense of identity and worth. It’s also one of the best ways to “integrate” into the host society. Of course this isn’t to say that we can’t support those incapable of work for various reasons.
